Independent Power Producer (IPP) Coal Baseload announcement
The Department of Energy cordially invites members of the media to attend the Ministerial announcement of the Coal Baseload IPP to be addressed by Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, which will take place as follows:
Date: Monday, 10 October 2016
Time: 10h00 (all media to arrive and set-up by 9:45)
Venue: The Westin Hotel, Cape Town, Cape Town International Convention Centre, Cape Town City Centre
The media briefing will announce the names of the preferred bidders for the 1st Coal Baseload IPP which was launched in December 2014. The Coal IPP Programme is the first baseload programme which allows the private sector to generate energy using coal resources.
The CIPP Programme will run parallel to the internationally acclaimed Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPP), which was first launched in August 2011, and already feeds power into the national grid.
