Minister Siyabonga Cwele visits Garankuwa Home Affairs office, 24 Jan

The Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Siyabonga Cwele, is expected to undertake a visit to the Home Affairs Garankuwa Office tomorrow, Thursday 24 January 2019, to confirm officials’ readiness to serve citizens who will be visiting offices on voter registration weekend to collect or apply for their smart ID cards and Temporary Identification Certificates. The Minister will also interact with community stakeholders and emphasise the critical role of local and provincial stakeholders in urging citizens to collect their IDs.

Home Affairs offices will open on Saturday and Sunday, 26-27 January 2019 from 08h00 to 17h00. Since eligible voters require IDs to vote, this effort should contribute in giving South Africa a successful final voter registration weekend and elections. There are nearly 300 000 uncollected IDs nationally. Gauteng is one of the provinces with a higher number of uncollected IDs. The Department urges citizens who have applied to visit Home Affairs offices to collect their IDs.
